We initially planned to visit Babaji in Warburton, but it was too busy, so we booked a table at Babaji in Belgrave instead. We went there with high expectations, but the food was just okay, not worth the hype created by Instagram influencers. The prices are also quite expensive compared to the taste and quality of the food they offer.
I stumbled across this place after treetop. The decor felt very authentic so we decided to try. The service was great and tentative and the waitress was friendly. Food was amazing and it felt authentic. Donโt know too much about Indian foods but I certainly enjoyed it. Tad on the hotter side but very acceptable. Samosa was a bit dry, but thatโs about it!
Absolutely love this place in Belgrave. The food, customer service, rich flavours, wait time, aesthetics, pricing, just love it. So authentic flavours with an overall Aussie vibe. The mysore masala dosa was our favourite. We came all the way from Geelong for my birthday, and I must say this restaurant made our day. A must visit. Filter Coffee could have been a little better, but everything else is just so amazing. Will definitely come again. Hopefully they keep it all the same.
Food - no doubt it was most delicious, home style Sadhya we ever had outside of our home. Staff were really great. But the wait - unacceptable - 1 hour & 20 minutes after sitting down. Other reason we chose Babaji's is the food on banana leaf. Well the banana leaf was invisible. May come back test other delicacies. Minus the wait would be great.
Call ahead to make sure they what your after.! I have driven here 45 mins to find out they are out of beef as soon as they opened. But hands down the best Kerala beef fry I have had to date in Victoria. Spicy and flavourful. Goes really well with their soft and flaky parottas. The chicken Biryani was also delicious also with the payasam dessert. The veg dishes I found was a bit of a let down sadly The samosa chaat had chickpeas that were undercooked and flavour wise just underwhelming. While the dalh was good the other veg curries just felt flat. The idlis felt a little dense and didnโt have that spongy feel.
