Found the restaurant by walking past, went in with no expectations. Wait staff was polite and had us seat ourselves, quickly attended with water. When we placed our order, they had just had a rush of people, and informed us quite accurately it would be ~20-25m before our food arrived and if that was still okay with us, which is better than most other similarly budgeted restaurants in Perth. I think we ended up waiting 30m and got a complimentary onion bhaji for our troubles. Food came out one by one with a few minutes between dishes, and the waitress forgot to add rice to our order, but the food was well cooked, we will definitely be coming back. The overall decor of the restaurant seemed unfinished, with screw holes in the walls, poorly finished paint on the walls and in corners, with decor that was a little soulless. Hope they figure out something that works better for them. The wait staff were very nice and amenable, just lacking a degree of professionalism or confidence.
I ordered a chicken dum biryani for takeaway, but what I got was veg biryani with a few pieces of chicken tandoori on top. I know my biryani damn well, and this was definitely not chicken dum biryani. I understand I went there about an hour before closing time they could have easily declined my order if they couldnโt prepare it properly. Instead, they served something completely different. Really disappointed with the experience.
This new Indian restaurant is well worth visiting. We visited for the first time last night and had very friendly, prompt service and the food was outstandingly good. We had delicious Garlic Naan bread, very fluffy white basmati rice and a fragrant, tasty fish curry. The fish was cooked to perfection (so often it is overcooked but his was not) and the sauce was freshly made with just the right amount of spice and flavour. Great value for money in a very convenient location. We will definitely be returning to try the other interesting looking menu options.
The food here is quite good; I have been twice now and would gladly go back. If you've not been it's worth trying; definitely try if it's close to you. The serving sizes are decent for the pricing. The place is run by a 2 person team, so if there are a number of other patrons there may be a bit of a wait before your mains start to arrive. However, once they do the rest will follow quickly. Green herb chicken tikka ($16) Delicious & tender with a bit of kick. Butter Chicken ($24.50) Absolutely delicious. Savoury, smokey flavours with a slight tartness from the tomato, with tender pieces of chicken. Generous portion as well. Matka goat curry ($30) Served in a claypot, living up to the restaurant namesake. This had a very nice, savoury umami flavour that was a bit tart. The bone in goat pieces were pretty tender & had sufficient meat. Those with a decent chilli tolerance won't have an issue, otherwise you may need to alternate food to eat this without it getting too spicy. Yellow dal ($22.99) This was tasty & in comparison to the other dishes, has a slightly sweet taste though it is still very much in the savoury camp. Mango lassi ($8) Very thick. This was good & had some small nut pieces in it which is a nice touch. Fish Moilee ($32) Honestly a very well executed curry. It's mild, but tasty and the natural fish flavour still comes through. The fish has skin, but isn't noticeably fishy and the meat is tender. The curry leaves are generous but have a bit of chew, so you may want to set them aside. This is great with some rice. 100% recommend trying this at least once. Homestyle Chicken Curry ($24.50) Very tender chicken and the sauce is more of a spiced, mildly sweet & tangy tomato based curry. Tasty, with some kick. The butter chicken is better imo, but this is also decent. Dhal Makhani ($22.99) Decent. This is spicier than the yellow dhal, and the legumes are a bit firmer. All standard quality & good: Yogurt raita ($5.50) The spice on top is not chilli. This had some cucumber shreds at the bottom. Garlic naan ($5.50) Rice ($5) Not formally on the menu, but offered as a side.
Food was great! The fish moilee was especially good - so tender and flavourful. The owner / chef has only recently taken over and a very friendly guy. We will be back ๐
