I went to Dosa Hut - Indian Multi Cuisine Restaurant Melbourne on Kings Street. They focus on South Indian food. Here is my review. I tried the paper masala dosa. It was not as thin or crispy as I wanted. The taste was okay, but the regular masala dosa is much better. My family tried the butter chicken, but it was just okay. One thing to know: they do not serve naan here. They only have roti. We also had the pani puri. It came with cut onions, which was an interesting twist I did not expect. I suggest staying with the South Indian dishes because that is their specialty. The menu has so many varieties of dosa. It is actually a bit confusing to choose because there are so many options. The customer service is excellent. I told the staff that the paper dosa did not meet my expectations. They changed the dosa for me quickly. They are very helpful. Also, you pay before you eat. You order at the counter and pay first. * Pros: Excellent service and good regular dosas. * Cons: The menu is confusing, no naan, and the paper dosa was not crispy. It is a good place if you want South Indian flavors. I will definitely come back to try other flavors of dosa sometimes again !

Good dosas and idly. Service was quick and the dosas were crispy. The atmosphere was not polished, and it looked like a South Indian shop in north India with loads of Delhi like taste. It was good though not South Indian. But, they have such a poor restroom which was unbelievably poorly maintained. It probably hints to how the operations are done behind the scenes.

Dosa Hut, located in Melbourne’s bustling CBD, is a vibrant and popular destination for lovers of Indian cuisine—particularly South Indian street food. Known for its wide range of dosas and bold spice profiles, the restaurant brings together the diverse flavours of India under one roof in a casual, fast-paced setting. The menu is extensive, featuring a remarkable selection of dosas with both traditional and modern fillings. From classic masala dosa to more creative options like chicken or lamb dosa, each is served with warm sambhar and coconut chutneys. Alongside dosas, you’ll find a full spread of biryanis, Indo-Chinese dishes like chilli chicken and Manchurian noodles, North Indian curries, tandoori platters, and street-style chaats. One of the standout dishes is the Hyderabadi dum biryani, layered with aromatic spices and tender meat. The Gobi 65 biryani and paneer butter masala are also favorites among regular diners. Portions are generous, and vegetarian options are plentiful, making it a great choice for group dining. The atmosphere is lively and casual, ideal for a quick lunch or informal dinner. While the space can get quite busy—especially during peak hours—service is generally efficient, though wait times can increase during holidays or weekends. The décor is simple and functional, focusing more on fast service than ambiance. Dosa Hut offers a reliable and flavourful dining experience for anyone craving rich, authentic Indian dishes at a reasonable price point. It’s a go-to spot in the city for dosa lovers and anyone looking to explore the depth of Indian street and comfort food.

I tried their dosa that comes with free mango lassi, it was so filling and satisfying! I always love the butter chicken here, creamy and it has perfect spice and generous amount of chicken. I also tried their new South Indian dishes, I really like their Bagara rice with spicy chicken fry, it’s less heavier than biryani. A must try if you love spicy food.
