I'm not giving 5 stars lightly, but my, what a delightful find in Surrey Hills. This gem of a restaurant has it all, delicious, fresh food, lovely service and a pretty decent wine list. The unusual selection of Indian dishes with some fusion elements made it hard to pick our winner, but we settled in the end on the tandoor roasted chicken. An absolute revelation.

I am from the hospital business .Our dinning experiences was above and beyond . The staff was so welcoming and accommodating. Hospitality at its best . . Chef Tanvi came personally to meet and great us . Thank you Chef for coming and meeting us that was very thoughtful.Then the owner comes and check on us . .Owner and my self had a some great conversation. So Thank you . Back story I had messaged Foreign return a few weeks prior arriving in Sydney . Tanvi replied . As I did to other restaurants but Chef Tanvi was the only one to replay with a personal touch. Thank you . Now comes the food appetizer were great . Dinner was very satisfying to our taste buds .We were so excited. We have a few picture . It was an amazing dinning experiences. It was a weekday and it was a full house . The resturant was buzzing .That made us happy . We know what it take to run a successful small family owned business . In our conversation we also discovered we had a common chef / family friend we both know back in US . As we say such a small world . We know some one common in different continent. The staff was so attentive paying attention to the smallest details . I mean smallest details . If you are in Sydney. It a must to Dine at Foreign Return .Indian craving 100% satisfying . beautiful rich curry and food! i came here with my husband and honestly what a lovely find. i’ve forgetten the name of my waitress but she truly went above and beyond, making surprise cocktails for us meeting our flavour tastes and everything. food was timely and- whilst they have a bit of unexpected spice, it’s not strong or overpowering the rich and beautiful flavours. all cooked into the meat and sauce stunningly. absolutely had to take the food back with us.

Best Indian restaurant in Surry hills for sure!!! From the moment you step in, the ambience and warm yellow lighting created touch of Indian nostalgia. Thank you Tanya and Kunal for amazing reception. Bund Gosht and Madras lamb curry was standout dishes with cheese and garlic naan. Malpua and Gulab jamun are must try for desserts.

I tried the 5-course banquet at Foreign Return and it was such a memorable dining experience. Every dish felt creative, beautifully presented, and full of flavour. The progression of courses was thoughtful – each one had its own story and distinct taste without being overwhelming. The atmosphere is modern yet warm, and the service was attentive without being intrusive. Highly recommend the banquet if you want to experience the variety and depth of what the restaurant has to offer. I had the Raj Kachori, Prawn Koliwada, Lamb chops, chicken tikka and Butter chicken, lamb madras and dal for mains.
