A Heart-Touching, Authentic Indian Food Experience We visited Tasmania from Melbourne during the Christmas and New Year break and stayed in Launceston for 3โ4 days. For us, finding good, authentic Indian food is not just a preference โ itโs a big part of what makes our holidays memorable and comforting. We tried a few places, but everything changed the moment we walked into Spice on Charles. The food didnโt just taste good โ it felt like genuine passion on a plate. In fact, we ended up having their food on all three days of our stay โ and dined in twice because we simply couldnโt stay away. That says it all. We also had a long, lovely conversation with Anu Singh, and you can instantly feel how much heart he puts into every dish. Listening to the story behind the restaurant made the experience even more special. Itโs rare to meet someone who truly cooks with intention, pride, and love, and I genuinely wish him the very best for Spice on Charles and all his future endeavours. To every Indian visiting Launceston โ and anyone who loves flavour-rich Indian food โ donโt miss this place. Youโll walk out not just satisfied, but smiling. A truly memorable experience. โค๏ธ๐
Super flavourful food!!!! There were big chunks of meat in the curry and biryani that we ordered and the server was very nice and accommodated our requests for the drinks (such as less sweet or even less caffeine ๐) Very homely vibes and you can smell the spices the moment you step in! Food takes a while to come but it is definitely worth the wait๐คฉ
I was alone so I ordered the chicken biryani ($19.50) and when it came, I thought the dish looked dry but it was not! The basmati rice was delicious and the chicken pieces (all deboned!) were juicy and moist. The accompanying raita was provided a refreshing kick as well. The staff were also polite and friendly. Portion size could feed 2 small appetites, so I kept half for takeaway which the staff kindly provided containers and a bag without extra charge.
The food was absolutely amazing!! Due to their busy dinner time, we have waited a bit for food to be served, however, food was beautiful. We ordered beef Vindaloo, lamb korma, butter chicken, chick peas, garlic naan, cheese naan, samosa, chicken biryani. Normally after Indian cuisine, you would feel very dehydrated, however, we didn't feel that the next day, so I would assume their flavour is from spice instead of salt and MSG. Out of all the dishes we ordered, except butter chicken, I loved every single one, butter chicken is average. Highly recommended this restaurant!
I called in during a weeknight to try out their lamb vindaloo. Iโm a bit of a chilli head so I like an authentic heat vindaloo (far too hot for most), this one had nice flavour but was a bit too tame and a bit too salty for my palette. The meat was very tender and great quality and the serving sizes were good. Staff were very friendly and responsive. Iโll be back again to try their other dishes.
